PRCL had obtained a Category-III License for container train operations in the year 2006 on payment of license fee of Rs.10 Crores. The Company was able to operationalize this license by running of container trains On 20th August 2009, first empty container rake moved from ACTL-Faridabad to Morvi (Gujarat), by taking a rake on lease from Container Rail Road Services Pvt. Ltd., From August 2009 – January 2010, 4 round trips, between Morvi (Western Railway) and South Kannur (Southern Railway). Since January 2010, the operation has been on hold on account of poor market conditions. PRCL explored business opportunities and tied up with M/s Maersk Line India Private Limited, one of the leading shipping lines, GPPL, M/s THAR Dry Port and other service providers in the process of starting the new business vertical within PRCL. A BLCS Rake was taken on lease and first train was run ex Pipavav Port to Bhagat ki Kothi in Jodhpur (Rajasthan) on 21/09/2021. The Company has now drawn up firm plans of ramping up this business during 2022, after entering into firm business commitments with its associates, and procurement of container rakes on long term leases and purchase for which a tender has been floated by the Company. EXIM traffic, the entire Rail network which connects the Ports of Pipavav, Mundra, Chennai, Ennore, Vizag and Kochi to any location. Domestic traffic, the entire rail network excluding any traffic which originates and also terminates at a location on or reached via the NCR Route, and their hinterlands. Container Train Operations has completed 1(one) year as on dated 21/09/2022. After completion of one year, 172 rakes of container trains with 16645 TEU’s have run to different destinations (Jamnagar, Bhagat Ki Kothi, Sanand, Maliya etc.) from Pipavav Port Siding. The Company has generated revenue of Rs.20.00 Crores (including GST) (approx.) from CTO operations.
